   Parry's agave is native to Arizona, New Mexico, west Texas, and northern Mexico, growing on rocky high-desert slopes, grasslands, and chaparral between roughly 4,500 and 8,000 feet elevation.

2. Entry 2

   The Mescalero Apache took their name from mescal: bulbous agave crowns were baked for days in stone-lined pits, then pounded into thin dried sheets for storage.

3. Entry 3

   Agave was a major prehistoric food source in the Southwest; the Hohokam of southern Arizona cultivated large fields of agave, especially Agave murpheyi, over a thousand years ago.
