A research collective founded roughly a decade after the bombs, dedicated to systematic study of post-event phenomena. Maintains field laboratories and standardized methodology to understand the Scar, anomalous materials, and pre-war technology.
- Entry 2
Founded by four survivors with pre-war credentials: a physicist, a physician, a metallurgist, and one whose discipline was scrubbed from the original charter. No founding document explains what the X in their logo stands for.
- Entry 3
Ranger field reports describe Institute teams as cooperative until the moment cooperation conflicts with a recovered document. Joint operations are recommended only with armed escort. The Dove Creek file remains open and is referenced in current threat assessments.
- Entry 4
A partial Institute memo recovered from a burned outpost lists three subject categories: "Volunteer," "Compensated," and a third designation redacted in every copy that has surfaced. The memo's distribution list includes only the twelve Doctors. None will confirm the third category exists.
