se missão aceita e requisitos cumpridos

Azra has the machine in pieces across the bench, ribbon and board laid out like something dissected. He looks like he hasn't slept.

When he sees the chips in your hand he stands too fast and steadies himself on the table.

You got them.

He takes the the chips, settles back over the bench and works in silence for a long while. Solder, breath, the small red light blinking on, off, on. Then a click. The blink steadies. Holds.

There.... Come on. Say something.

He presses the play control. The speaker hisses, then catches. A voice pushes through forty years of rust.

...lena.

I made it thr-...

.... -it's already over h-...

The voice folds over itself. Two of it now, a half-second apart, saying the same words out of step.

....-so tired of arr-...arr- arr-....

The light dies. The speaker goes flat. The room is very quiet.

Who is that?

I don't know yet.

But it's certainly from pre-war.

The rest of it's there, I can feel it under my hands, but it's tangled in a way I can't follow.

Can you get the rest of the message?

There's more on here than rot, something deliberate sitting between me and the voice.

The chips are in the machines that still run.

You'll have to put the Revenants down to gut their boards.

I found the voice. It's in here.

The path that carries it is rotted through, half the silicon turned to powder.

I can rebuild it. I need the right parts, and nobody's made them in a lifetime.

Now he looks at you.

There's a strip of dead arcades east from here. Game machines. Most are slag but some still run.

Still run? On what?

That's the part nobody likes to say out loud. No line, no cell, no reason. They flicker on in the dark and play to an empty room, keeping score for people dead longer than you've been alive.

The town calls what's left in them Revenants.

What do you need from them?

The boards inside. The chips are the same family as what rotted in here. Pull three clean ones, bring them to me.

They don't come quiet. You'll have to put them down to gut them.

quest: accepted

Whatever's on this tape has waited forty years. A few more days won't hurt it.

I keep telling myself that.

fim

quest: declined

Already back in the machine's guts.

It'll keep. It's good at keeping.
