   One-seed juniper is native to the American Southwest, growing in Arizona, New Mexico, southern Colorado, western Oklahoma, and western Texas at elevations between roughly 970–2,300 meters.

   Pueblo and Navajo peoples ate the berries raw or ground them into bread, while leaf ash was added to corn to produce posole or hominy.

3. Entry 3

   Native peoples within its range stripped the fibrous bark to make saddles, breechcloths, skirts, and sleeping mats; branches were also burned ceremonially for purification.
