A mangy dog sits at the edge of the market square, whining at anyone who passes. It's wearing a makeshift collar - clearly someone's animal, not feral. Every few minutes it trots a few steps toward an alley, looks back, and whines again.
A passing trader mutters, "That dog's been at it since dawn. Owner probably drank himself dead somewhere."
