Buffs

Buffs are temporary states. Most come from something you ate, drank or injected; a few come from places out in the wasteland.

Your active buffs and their remaining time are shown on your character screen. Most buffs have levels - a stronger version of the same food or drug applies a stronger buff.

State buffs

Two buffs mark what you have done rather than what you took:

• Outlaw: you attacked someone unprovoked. Eight hours, refreshed every time you go hunting again, and no settlement will let you in.
• Off the Grid: you were attacked unprovoked. For three hours no other player can start a fight with you. Attack someone and it breaks immediately.
