   Banana yucca grows across Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas, and Utah, thriving in pinyon-juniper woodland and desert grassland habitats between 1,200 and 7,500 feet elevation.

2. Entry 2

   Apache peoples pounded yucca roots to make soap and shampoo, and historically mixed ground juniper berries with yucca fruit to make a gravy or fermented drink.

3. Entry 3

   The related Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia) was reportedly named by 19th-century Mormon settlers crossing the Mojave, who saw the upraised branches as the biblical Joshua reaching toward heaven.
