1. Entry 1

   Chromite (FeCr2O4) is the sole commercial ore of chromium, essential for stainless steel, superalloys, chrome plating, and refractories, with no substitute in stainless steel.

2. Entry 2

   In 1913 Harry Brearley in Sheffield, England discovered that adding roughly 13% chromium to steel produced an alloy that resisted rust - the world's first stainless steel.

3. Entry 3

   The name "chromium" derives from the Greek word "chroma" meaning color, because nearly all chromium compounds display vivid colors: greens, reds, oranges, and yellows.
