1. Entry 1

   Tungsten has the highest melting point of any metal at 3,422°C (6,192°F), enabling historic use in incandescent light bulb filaments and modern rocket engine nozzles.

2. Entry 2

   Tungsten carbide, an alloy of tungsten and carbon, ranks among the hardest known materials and is used in cutting tools, drill bits, and armor-piercing kinetic penetrators.

3. Entry 3

   Its older name "wolfram" (hence symbol W) comes from German "wolf rahm" meaning "wolf's froth" - miners named it this because tungsten ore consumed tin during smelting, devouring it like a wolf.
