    Swedish chemist Axel Cronstedt isolated nickel in 1751 from "kupfernickel" ore, naming it after a mischievous German mining sprite blamed for ore that yielded no copper.

  2. Entry 2

    Primary nickel ores include pentlandite, an iron-nickel sulfide formed in magmatic deposits, and garnierite, a hydrous nickel silicate formed by weathering of ultramafic rocks into laterites.

  3. Entry 3

    Nickel is the only element named after the devil. Medieval German miners who failed to extract copper from its reddish ore blamed "Old Nick," a mischievous sprite, and called it "Kupfernickel" - devil's copper.
