   Arizona's Apache Mine and Old Yuma Mine produced world-class vanadinite, a brick-red lead vanadate crystal mined during World War II to harden steel.

3. Entry 3

   Vanadium was named after Vanadís, an Old Norse name for the goddess Freyja, because its compounds produce a stunning variety of colors: reds, greens, blues, and yellows.
